Plug-In Manager

Customize menu > Plug-in Manager

The Plug-in Manager lets you manage plug-ins dynamically without any initialization required. The Plug-in Manager provides a list of all plug-ins found in the 3ds max plug-in directories, including the plug-in description, type (object, helper, modifier, and so on), status (loaded or deferred), size, and path. The Plug-in Manager provides options to load or tag as deferred, any particular plug-in, regardless where they reside on disk. The Plug-in Manager is similar to Summary Info, but with more options.

Configure Paths

Interface

When you start the Plug-in Manager, it scans through all the plug-in paths specified in the plugin.ini file and lists them in the Plug-in Manager dialog. The information is divided up into columns as described below.

Tag—When you add a check mark in this column, you tag the associated plug-ins so that you can perform right-click menu actions on it. Thus you can tag multiple rows of plug-ins and perform a single operation on all of them. Use the right-click menu and select Tag Selected to add a check mark for selected plug-ins.

Name—The filename of the plug-in.

Description—A description of the plug-in.

Status—Indicates whether the plug-in is loaded (green) or deferred (yellow).

Size—File size of the plug-in.

Full Path—The path of the plug-in file.

Plug-in Directories

These are the plug-in directories listed in plugin.ini. You can also configure these paths by using Configure Paths. You can load all the plug-ins in a directory by clicking in the check box.

Description—Describes what type of plug-ins are found at this path.

Load Path—The path of the plug-in directory.

Right-click Menu

The right-click menu for the Plug-in Manager works in the list of plug-ins, and in the blank area beneath the list. It does not work in the list of plug-in directories.

Selected Plug-ins—Select this item when a plug-in is highlighted, then select Defer or Load to defer or load plug-ins.

Clear Selection—Clears what is highlighted in the list.

Tagged Plug-ins—Select this item for tagged plug-ins, then select Defer or Load to defer or load the plug-ins.

Tag Selected—Select this item to tag all highlighted plug-ins.

Clear Tags—Clears all tags.

Load New Plug-in—Loads a plug-in from the hard drive.

Refresh View—Refreshes the list of plug-ins.
