Rendering to Textures: Selected Object Settings Rollout

Rendering menu > Render To Texture > Render to Textures dialog > Selected Object Settings rollout

This rollout has controls for the texture baking of individual objects. It lets you choose which map channel the texture will use, which elements will be rendered, and at what sizes. It also lets you control file-name generation, and assign the format of rendered texture elements.

Interface

Per Object Settings group

Enable—When on, the Use Channel and Edge Padding controls are used for both selected object and “whole scene” texture rendering, as chosen in the Objects To Bake group of the General Settings rollout. When off, only selected object texture rendering uses these settings; “whole scene” rendering does not. Default=on.

Use Channel—Sets the map channel used for the baked texture.

Edge Padding—The amount, in pixels, that edges are allowed to overlap in the flattened (“unwrapped”) texture. Default=2 pixels.

If the baked texture shows visible seams when you view it in shaded viewports or renderings, try increasing this value.

Generated Texture Elements group

List of elements—Shows the elements to render. See Rendering to Textures for a list of the available element types.

  • Toggle—When on, renders this element. When off, disables rendering of this element. Default=on.

  • Element type—The name of the element type.

  • Resolution—The resolution at which this element's bitmap will be rendered.

Add—Click to display an Add Texture Elements dialog to choose one or more element types to add to the list.

See Baked Texture Elements for a description of the different element choices.

Delete—Click to remove the currently highlighted element from the list.

Selected Element Common Settings group

Enable—When on, renders this element. When off, disables rendering of this element. Default=on.

This toggle is the same as the toggle by each element's name in the list, and the value of the two is linked.

Name—Enter the element component of the file name. Default=the name of the element type.

Filename—Enter the file name of the rendered texture. Default=the object name followed by the element name, and TGA format.

...—Click this button to display a file dialog you use to choose a name, directory, and file format for the rendered texture.

Use Automatic Map Size—When on, sets the texture size automatically, using the values in the General Settings rollout. When off, the texture is the size specified by the following controls in this rollout. Default=off.

Width and Height—These two spinners let you specify a custom resolution for the texture. Default=Width=Height=256.

Preset resolution buttons (32x32, 64x64, and so on)—Click a button to specify a preset resolution for the texture.
