The documentation set for 3ds max combines online and printed material.
3ds max Installation Guide: Contains complete installation and configuration instructions.
The Installation Guide includes information about system requirements and troubleshooting. It also tells you how to uninstall the program.
3ds max 5 New Features Guide: Contains fundamental concepts and strategies for using the new features in 3ds max 5.
3ds max User Reference: Contains complete reference material describing the features of 3ds max, as well as many step-by-step procedures. Covers fundamental concepts and strategies for using the product.
Access the reference online by choosing Help > User Reference.
The printed User Reference, Volumes 1, 2, and 3, duplicates the online User Reference.
Note: Customers upgrading from previous versions of the software do not automatically get printed reference volumes. If you would like to receive the printed reference, see the materials accompanying your upgrade for order information.
3ds max Tutorials: Contain tutorial information and detailed procedures to walk you through increasingly complex operations. This is the best source for learning 3ds max, whether you are a new user or just want to expand your current skills.
Access the online version of the tutorials by choosing Help > Tutorials.
The printed Tutorials book duplicates the online Tutorials.
MAXScript Reference: Describes the MAXScript scripting language. This reference is available online.
Access the MAXScript Reference by choosing Help > MAXScript Reference.
Quick Reference Card: This printed card provides an overview and reminder of windows, toolbars, command panels, and other controls in the user interface.
gmax Developer's Guide: A developer guide for creating gmax game packs. It also has detailed information about the gmax SDK, and customizing the gmax user interface.
reactor Manual: Contains reference and tutorials for reactor, a rigid and soft-body dynamics engine included with 3ds max 5.
Note: Due to scheduling requirements, some topics in the printed User Reference might differ slightly from the online version. Where there is a difference, the printed version is more current.
